My six piece collection 'Love Handles' explores feminism and femininity, societies relationship with the female body and celebrates lumpy ladies and the messy bodily aspects of being a woman.
I choose to remake a Comme des Garçon coat from their 2012 collection. I remade it in a pink felt, it required 3 different patterns and 6 pattern pieces. Once made, I designed a dress. The design stemmed from manipulating the remade coat on the stand until a new look was created. The redesign was created through draping on the stand.
I focused this Trends project on researching the Simone Rocha label. Analyzing the company's origin, collections, customer and concepts then allowed me to begin my own design interpretation.
This two piece collection was my final 3rd year project.
I sourced inspiration for this two piece denim dress from an exhibition at the Saatchi gallery. I constructed the dress using flat patterns and sewed it up on an industrial sewing machine using twill weave denim. The piece was later selected for exhibition in LSAD.
The objective of the transformation project was to take an old garment and manipulate it on the stand to create something new. For this I used a men's outdoor jacket.
